Time and Dirt

(First Day -- Previous Day -- Day 4 -- Next Day)

Day 4

Heliopause Colony on Planet Vertumna, Medbay

“Solane, hey. I finally managed to fix the shelf in the shed that had held that... bag of fertilizer... uhh... I’m not sure why I didn’t do that last week already. Please don’t let that be my biggest regret in life... but at least that board shouldn’t hurt anyone anymore.

And then I tidied it all up so we... can go back to work when... when you wake up, you know? We have done this for so many years, together... well, when you weren’t deep in your biology studies or on some field trip exploring or surveying some part of this alien planet that we treat so ... so callously, with no respect for all other life on it or our impact on them.

Governor Lum will talk about how great we humans supposedly are and how this planet should be ours... but he hasn’t even shown care for humans either! I managed to finally get ahold of him today, after another painful council meeting because there apparently wasn’t enough blabla yet this week, and asked him if he was aware what had happened, but he had no idea. And when I explained it to him, under tears, he gave a dismissive wave and said that this hypermodern automated medbed will take care of it! And *has it*? I admit, I actually do hope he’s right this one time...

It’s horrible, why can’t I do more? More than just *hope*? At least I should be able to help you... I asked my mother if she knew anything, but she could only give me some vague words of hope and optimism, too, even if sweet ones. That at 16 you’re still so young, you’ll surely get well in no time. I love my mother and I know she’s trying her best but this still hurt me... And my fathers didn’t have any advice either. One told me that you’ll be fine because you already survived the coma you were in when you were 10! I couldn’t believe it.

I guess I’ll come back tomorrow with some other flower or something. Didn’t you have some medicinal flowers with you all the time? Maybe we’re too reliant on technology nowadays and ... uh, I’ll leave before I’ll get an earful by Dr. Instance about how that’s barbarism...”
